In the lead-up to the public vote we have been giving our readers an update of some of this year’s nominees including those in line for Software Application of the Year and Enterprise 3D Printer of the Year (Metal and Polymers). Keeping up with nomination updates, here we have a rundown of some of the current nominees for 3D Scanning/Metrology Company of the Year.
Before choosing a 3D scanner, you’ll need to decide what sort of?quality you want. Options range from a “professional” scanner, which is more expensive in most cases,?to your smartphone, useful for getting used to scanning 3D objects.

A way to start or pause the scan from the scanner itself, rather than using the keyboard, also would have been beneficial.
The BQ Ciclop is an open source 3D scanner rig that you assemble yourself replete with open source software Horus. Finnicky and difficult to construct precisely this rig requires multiple passes and patience. Its performance depends on how well you assemble it. The software is buggy and scanning is slow. You can print out the parts and buy some components themselves or buy a kit from BQ and others. It’s your least expensive entry point but will take time to work.
Qualcomm’s ultrasonic tech, tested by CNET, "uses sound waves to generate a map of your fingerprint, with the wave of pressure bouncing off the contours of your skin."
The video shows an alleged S10+, Note 9 and?Oppo Find X being squeezed into a case designed for Samsung’s incoming flagship. While the Note 9 is significantly too large, the S10+ is expected to offer the same 6.4in screen surrounded by smaller bezels. The Find X fits into the case snuggly, suggesting the dimensions of the S10+ will be similar to those of the 6.2in S9+.?
