This is the part where you receive your digital avatar and add any animation or additional customizations. If you’re like me, you probably don’t have any 3D rigging or animation skills. Luckily, the folks at Adobe bought mixamo.com, the web-based 3D character and animation creation tool, four years ago and have since made the service completely free. Just make an Adobe account and head on over to mixamo.com, upload your 3D model, and instantly get access to thousands of free, tweakable animations! As you explore the site you may recognize some animations as the mixamo library is one that I and many 3D artists leverage constantly, like the “bellydance”. Unfortunately the site hasn’t been updated with new animations in a while so the most recent cultural reference is probably “Gangnam Style”.
We can look back at most of these bizarre NES add-ons and see them as either a noble, yet failed experiment from the early days of video gaming, or at least another trinket worthy of being added to a gamer’s collection of novelty items. But when it comes to the Speedboard, most would probably agree that this accessory was a complete waste of time and money.
The larger S10+ has an extra front-facing camera that’s a depth sensor, whose purpose is to better produce that depth-of-field bokeh effect. But for the most part, I find the extra depth sensor pointless. I took a series of selfie portraits with the S10+ and the mono-selfie cam S10 and the two photos are very similar. I can see the S10+’s selfies can have slightly better edge detection, but it’s not enough to justify an extra sensor, because it eats up more of the screen. I’d rather the S10+ just stick with one selfie camera and give us more screen.
